Designing a Laminam Bathroom: A Guide for Melbourne Homeowners
From vanity benchtops to full wet area cladding — how large-format Laminam porcelain creates spa-like Melbourne bathrooms with zero maintenance.
The Laminam Bathroom Revolution
The bathroom is arguably where Laminam delivers its most dramatic transformation. A material that is genuinely waterproof, grout-line-free, and maintenance-free — in a space where every other material requires constant upkeep.
Vanity Benchtops
Laminam vanity benchtops are installed in the same way as kitchen benchtops — a 12mm or 20mm slab, precision-cut for undermount or flush basin integration. The key difference from natural stone: zero sealing, zero etching from bathroom chemicals, and no moisture penetration around the sink edge.
Full Height Wall Cladding
This is where Laminam's large-format advantage is most visible. A standard Melbourne bathroom has a shower recess, vanity wall, and often a bath surround — all requiring a waterproof, hygienic surface.
Using 3240 × 1620 mm Laminam panels:
- —Shower walls: Floor-to-ceiling panels with a single horizontal joint — dramatically fewer grout lines than tile
- —Vanity wall: Full-height feature behind the basin
- —Bath surround: Continuous material wrapping the bath deck and surround
Grout Lines
This is the biggest practical difference between large-format Laminam and conventional tiling. A typical shower tiled in 600 × 600 mm tiles will have approximately 24 lineal metres of grout in 1.8 m² of wall area. That grout requires cleaning, re-sealing, and eventual replacement.
A Laminam-clad shower in 3240 × 1620 mm format has approximately 2 lineal metres of joint — all sealed with flexible silicone. No re-sealing. No mould in grout lines.
Design Palettes for Melbourne Bathrooms
The most specified Laminam finishes for Melbourne bathrooms:
White marble effect (Calacatta, Statuario): Timeless. The non-porous surface doesn't grey or stain over years of use like natural Carrara.
Dark drama (Noir Désir, Grafite): Polished finish in dark tones creates a five-star hotel atmosphere. Zero water marks.
Warm stone (Pietra di Savoia, Travertino): The warmth of travertine without the porosity.
